International Teams

As ever, we hope to offer a compeition with plenty to attract international teams.

The Oxford IV provides the best possible preparation for the World Universities’ Debating Championships, and teams that perform well have consistently gone on to perform well at Worlds and other international competitions. Moreover, Oxford is the second largest tournament of its kind in the world and a hugely competitive and prestigious tournament in its own right. In the past, teams have stayed and attended the Cambridge IV which is usually held the following weekend in November.

This year, we will continue with our popular package for international teams:

  • Guaranteed crash on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
  • We will provide workshops with some of our top debaters including former World finalists.
  • Access to famous world renowned Thursday night debates at the Oxford Union.
  • Cocktail party on Thursday night with free cocktails.
  • There will be a walking tour around the town, to see Oxford's famous university and colleges.
  • Information and informal discussion about graduate courses in Oxford on Friday.
  • An ESL break (please see Debating for more detailed information), in which teams without much British Parliamentary experience in English will be eligible to enter (although International teams regularly make it to the main break of the competition).
  • Attending to your every pre tournament need and problem (e.g. aid with visa requests).

This package is a bit more expensive (see Entry Fees). International teams are also welcome to simply pay the usual registration and arrive in Oxford for the debates on the Friday. We will look into waiving registration fees, in circumstances of particular hardship.

Please arrive by the afternoon of Thursday 6th November to take advantage of this package. We look forward to welcoming you to Oxford.
